Questionnaire to Parents Responses

Prepared by Joanne Snook, Parent Governor

Parents were issued with a questionnaire in the Spring term.

Many thanks to everyone who took the time to respond. We received responses from 40 families within the school, which was great.  The results were analysed and taken to the Full Governing Body for discussion.

In summary; What we are doing well.

You confirmed that your child was happy at Hulbert Junior School; that they have friends; and that they have work that is right for their ability.

You feel that you can approach the school if you have concerns. On the whole parents were positive about transitional arrangements.

Hulbert continues to work hard, in partnership with its feeder schools, to ensure that the transition from infants is an easy one. Most of you confirmed that their children enjoyed their time at Hulbert, both in the classroom and in the playground.

Hulbert School is committed to ensuring that the environment in the school is stimulating, safe and fun; and your response has confirmed that our hard work is paying off!

You were happy that your children were bringing home the correct amount of homework, and feel that you are made to feel welcome when you call in. You were happy that the school buildings and grounds were well managed You were confident that your child is given equal opportunities to participate and that they are treated equally, regardless of sex, age, religion, race or disability.

How we can improve: At the time of that the questionnaire was distributed, some parents had concerns that they had not received enough information about their child’s progress.  Hulbert has been working hard to improve communication with parents, having more formal parent’s evenings and improving the reports to parents.  Hopefully, these developments have improved the quality, and increased the opportunity for parents to receive information about their child’s progress at our school.  The governors will be reviewing progress again next year.

Parents also had concerns that the standards of behaviour at the school were not high. Hulbert has been conducting a review of behaviour throughout the school and there have been many initiatives to encourage good behaviour within our school such as:-

  • Improvements to playground and the outdoor space
  • The buddy scheme
  • School Council
  • Clear anti-bullying policy
  • New behaviour policy for September
  • New and improved reward systems
  • Special Assemblies
  • Roll of Honour
  • Pupil Representatives
  • Staff training, including lunchtime supervision
We are proud of the behaviour of the children within our school.  Visitors, including Ofsted inspectors have praised the behaviour of Hulbert pupils.  Parents can be confident that Hulbert expects high standards of behaviour from all our children, and this underpins our 4 core principles of Emotional Intelligence, Independence, Creativity, and Teamwork.  We will continue to ensure that behaviour standards are set high within our school. Here are some comments made by happy parents!
