Our School The main building at Hulbert opened in September 1982. It is a very striking design with a spectacular theme of light and space. The children have an opportunity to work in their classrooms, large shared areas, smaller tutorial rooms and the library areas. We have a purpose built music and drama studio equipped with lighting and sound facilities. From September 2008, we will have 7 classes. All 7 classes will be based in the main building, but we also have additional space for specialist provision in a separate building. We are well resourced to meet the requirements of the National Curriculum. We have well stocked library areas and children are trained to use the books sensibly and independently. The school has invested heavily into ICT and has a high quality, fully equipped computer suite. A network of multi media projectors and interactive white boards has been put into each class to support curriculum development. We have a range of software to support the curriculum. Every child has their own e-mail address. We are also connected to the Hampshire Intranet which provides safe access to a wide range of educational websites. We are extremely lucky that our school is set in very attractive grounds and woodland areas. The school has its own wood called Frank’s Coppice. This has been developed as a conservation area and is ideal as an “outdoor classroom”. It is used to support many areas of the curriculum such as English, science and art. There are two playgrounds; one of these has an area designated as a quiet place with seating and terraced steps leading down to the playing fields. We provide a variety of playground equipment for the children to play with. Our lunchtime supervisors have been trained to start games that the children can join in with. We try and make sure that playtimes can be as varied and enjoyable as possible. Many of the improvements that have been put in place have been achieved with a great deal of help and funding from the “Friends of Hulbert”. This is a voluntary group of parents and staff who put on events such as discos, film nights, carol evenings, and summer fun days. New volunteers are always welcomed. If you feel able to get involved, please contact the school office. |
